Original deadlines and extended deadlines are distinguished. An older notice deadline is not presented as the final extension. An unavailable record does not mean applications or examinations did not take place.
Different phases, different regions
Older schedules used summer, winter and sometimes extreme-winter regions. Each known date is labelled by region. Publication of a notice on a district website is not treated as proof of the national application opening date.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya: a brighter beginning
Origins, purpose, education and residential life
Opportunity for rural talent since 1986
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya scheme began under the National Policy on Education, 1986, to provide quality modern education to talented children, particularly from rural areas, regardless of their family’s economic circumstances.
NVS, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, runs these co-educational residential schools. JNVs follow CBSE and provide Classes VI–XII. Main admission is through Class VI JNVST; lateral entry fills vacant seats in Classes IX and XI.

Rural and other reservations
At least 75% of Class VI seats are for rural candidates and at least one-third are for girls. Rural eligibility requires the prescribed schooling record in rural schools, not merely a rural residential address.
Consult the relevant prospectus for SC, ST, OBC, disability and district-selection provisions. A candidate may not repeat the Class VI JNVST.

EVS is included in the 2027 Class VI pattern. Use the new structure below when planning preparation rather than relying entirely on the older three-section pattern.

Four subjects, a strong foundation
Figure-based reasoning, environmental studies, arithmetic and language passage comprehension. Study EVS alongside calculation and reasoning practice.

Language comprehension in English and Hindi, with prescribed Class VIII mathematics and science topics. Selection is against district vacancies and merit.

At least 6/20 is required in each subject. Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational use different 60-mark subject combinations for merit. Minimum qualifying marks do not guarantee selection.

How to complete the Navodaya form
From application to admission: the essential steps
Confirm your admission class and eligible district
Read the prospectus for your session. Check date of birth, current class, residence and schooling district.
Prepare your documents
Keep proof of date of birth, the school/headmaster certificate where required, photograph, parent and candidate signatures and other documents prescribed by the portal ready. Use a correct, active mobile number.
Apply through the official portal
Classes VI, IX and XI have separate portals. Match name, date of birth, category and district with documents. Review all entries before final submission.
Save the registration number and submitted form
Save submission confirmation and a print/download copy. Corrections can be made only during an officially announced correction window.
Admit card, examination and document verification
Check centre, reporting time and instructions on the admit card. Selection is provisional until original documents and eligibility are verified.

Fees, results and next steps
Understand free applications and school contributions
Application fees and education costs
Applications for Navodaya selection tests are free. Education, boarding, lodging, textbooks and prescribed facilities are generally provided free.
For Classes IX–XII, Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi is generally ₹600 per month. SC/ST, students with disabilities, all girls and BPL-family students receive exemptions under the prescribed rules. For wards of government employees, ₹1,500 or actual Children Education Allowance, whichever is less, applies with a minimum of ₹600 unless exempt.
Results and final admission
The 2027 Class VI prospectus expects results by the end of March 2027; this is an estimate, not a fixed result date. Check Class IX/XI results through announcements on the official portals.
Selected candidates must provide date-of-birth, residence, schooling and applicable category/rural-eligibility documents. Admission may be cancelled if required eligibility documents are not valid. Follow instructions from the allotted JNV.

Frequently asked questions from students and parents
When is the Navodaya Class VI examination for 2027 admission?+
The Class VI JNVST for session 2027–28 is scheduled for 28 November 2026. The examination year and admission session can differ.
What is the application deadline for Classes IX and XI?+
According to the portals checked on 3 October 2026, the 2027–28 Class IX and XI application deadline is extended to 15 October 2026. Both tests are scheduled for 10 April 2027.
Does the Class VI test now include EVS?+
Yes. The official 2027 prospectus includes Mental Ability, EVS, Arithmetic and Language: 80 questions, 100 marks and two hours.
Do applications and examinations happen in the same months every year?+
No. Phases, weather, administrative scheduling and events such as COVID have changed the calendar. Do not treat an old year’s dates as confirmed dates for a new session.
Why are some dates missing from the historical archive?+
The original official document for that field was not verified in this archive. The gap is shown explicitly instead of filling it with an estimate or an unverified list.
Was Class XI admission always through a written examination?+
No. Before 2023–24, vacant-seat admission used Class X marks-based merit. Written Class XI LEST was introduced from 2023–24. Earlier merit sessions are not assigned written examination dates.
